At this place in 2020 the footprint of a pareasaur called Pachypes dolomiticus was found. These herbivores were 2 - 3 meters long and weighted about 500 kg. They lived about 255 million years ago and, thus, about 30 million years before the dinosaurs. During this time the Palatinate forest was a tropical landscape bordering the Zechstein-sea. The footprint isn't there anymore of course, but still this trench in the middle of the forest has a very special atmosphere and is very easy accessible.
