Pulvermaar

More than 10,000 years ago volcanism formed the distinctive landscape of the Volcanic Eifel with its typical explosion crates and maars, now filled with water, lava streams and tuffs. The region is still volcanically active today and there's evidence for the occurrence of future eruptions. This Maar is circular with 700 m in diameter and with a depth of 74 m amongst the deepest European inland waters. The tuff wall around is about 25 m in height. It has a campground nearby and an open air bath with gastronomy. The exact place I pinned is a beautiful place to rest and watch over the water.
