Framlingham castle

Framlingham Castle is a beautiful concentric fortress with plenty of extra mural towers and battlements to explore. It was built by Hugh Bigod in the 12th century as a fortress which was used to frustrate King John who had to force its surrender in 1216. In the 15th Century it was the principle seat of John Howard, Duke of Norfolk a staunch Yorkist and supporter of King Richard III, he died at Bosworth and the castle passed shortly to their rivals the De Veres who ft ought on the winning side. After Thomas Howard won his stunning victory at the Battle of Flodden the castle went back into their family. It is now mostly a ruin but is a great castle to explore, its run by English Heritage so an admission fee must be paid.
