The remains of a Premonstratensian monastery which was destroyed in the Dissolution. Its a beautiful complex of ruins to explore and to learn the history of the White Canons. The Premonstratensian were a rare religious order who lived under a firm of the rule of St Benedict and served the community by offering health care and religious services. The Abbey was founded by Robert De Ufford, Duke of Suffolk. In a modern excavation the medieval remains of a huge hunting dog were found which measured 7 ft in length leading some to believe that this was the Black Shuck Dog of Death that is said to haunt the country lanes of Suffolk.
