Découvrez Taeppa's Mound, une impressionnante sépulture anglo-saxonne de haut statut préservée dans un ancien cimetière de Taplow, près de Maidenhead. Perchée sur une colline dominant la Tamise, cette butte funéraire occupe le site d'un ancien oppidum de l'Âge du Fer. Excavé en 1883, ce tertre a révélé l'un des plus riches trésors funéraires jamais découverts à cette époque, incluant la célèbre boucle dorée et grenats du « Prince de Taplow » et des cornes à boire montées en argent. Ces artefacts exceptionnels, parmi les plus importants après Sutton Hoo, sont désormais exposés au British Museum. Le site abrite aussi des cauldrons, verres verts, épées, boucliers et jeux d'époque. Niché entre les tombes victoriennes du cimetière désaffecté, derrière Taplow Court, ce lieu de patrimoine archéologique offre un havre de tranquillité loin de l'agitation urbaine. Accessible à pied depuis Berry Hill, il ravira les passionnés d'histoire anglo-saxonne et d'archéologie.

« Anglo-Saxon burial mound. Located behind Taplow Court in a disused Church graveyard is a well-preserved high status Anglo-Saxon burial mound. It is located on a hill overlooking the Thames Valley where there used to be an iron age hillfort. The barrow was excavated in 1883, a high status burial was found with the most extensive treasure hoard ever found to that date. These objects can now be seen in the British museum including the gold and garnet encrusted buckle of the "Taplow Prince" and a pair of silver mounted drinking horns and other amazing treasures: cauldrons, green glass vessels, sword and shield boss, seax knife, cups and playing pieces. It was the second most important burial furnishing after Sutton Hoo. Its a lovely place of peace amongst the often too busy area of Maidenhead and Taplow. It can be found behind Taplow Court. You can find on street parking in Taplow, walk up a little road called Berry Hill where you will see some gorgeous timber framed houses, go through an opening in a Old church wall and you can't miss it sitting amongst the old Victorian gravestones from the church that uses to be here. »
