One if the most exceptional stone circles in Northern England. Consists of 59 stones in a ring and a tall Sandstone megalith standing outside the main circle. This impressive Neolithic henge is one of the finest in England and the seemingly most important stone itself - Long Meg is one of the only megalithic sites in England to have bronze age rock art cut into it. These mysterious symbols are similar to the cup and rings marks you will find across the moors of Northern England. Legend attests that Long Meg was a witch who along with her coven of daughters was turned to stone by the Scottish wizard Michael Scott.
