Millom Castle est une forteresse médiévale fascinante située dans le Cumbria, près de l'église Holy Trinity Church. Fondée en 1134 par Godard De Boyville, ce château historique a connu des transformations majeures au cours des siècles. La famille Huddleston, qui en a pris contrôle suite à un mariage stratégique, a joué un rôle important durant les guerres des Roses. Sir John Huddleston combattit notamment pour Richard, duc d'York, à la bataille de Blore Heath et pour Richard III à Bosworth. Le château porte les cicatrices de la Guerre civile anglaise, gravement endommagé par les canons parlementaristes, bien que la famille ait échappé aux représailles. Aujourd'hui, ce petit château envahi par la végétation conserve son charme pittoresque et ses mystères. Une légende locale raconte qu'il serait hanté par le Hob Thross, une créature folklorique bienveillante des légendes cumbriennes. « This small and overgrown castle can be found nearby to Holy Trinity Church. It was built by Godard De Boyville in 1134. From an advantageous marriage it waa taken over by the Huddleston family. The Huddleston were ardent Yorkist, Sir John Huddleston fought for Richard Duke of York at Blore Heath and for Richard III at Bosworth. Luckily the Huddleston were pardoned but ended up on the wrong side in the English Civil War when their castle was greatly damaged by Parliamentarian cannons. According to legend the castle is haunted by a type of hairy brownie called a Hob Thross, this helpful fairy would do household chores but when given clothes disappeared forever. »
