A 15th Century Tower house. Now very much a ruin this tower is all that I'd left of a tower house built by the 15th century gentry of Westmorland. This may have been a fortified solar tower attached to a wooden feasting Hall, now the solar is all that remains. According to folklore is was built by Lucy, Margaret and Catherine De Thweng and their brother Thomas who owned a quarter of the Kendal barony. Perhaps an example of young members of a noble family attempting to construct a building to represent their military knightly status in the late middle ages. It is now privately owned by a farming family so do ask permission before entering, it can also be photographed from the road.
