Helmsley Castle

This great castle was built by Robert De Roos in 1186. It has an impressive keep, moat and Gatehouse. In 1478 it was sold to Richard, Duke of Gloucester when he was Lord of the North. In the English Civil Was ar the castle held for three months for the Royalists when besieged by Sir Thomas Fairfax.
